When a Hindi film music enthusiastic thinks of Tanga-wali (the female driver of a horse-drawn carriage), the first name that comes to mind is Basanti, Hema Malini’s talkative character in the 1975 film Sholay.
But a couple of
decades before that cult classic, a film titled Tangawali released.
My collection
contained just one song from the film.
It was a romantic
number titled Halke Halke Chalo Sanware.
The two people
who lent their voices to it were Lata Mangeshkar and Hemant Kumar.
Prem was Dhawan
who wrote the song, which was composed by Salil Chowdhury.
