This song’s (Mah)mood was ghamgeen

There’s no two ways about the fact that the road to success was never smooth for Talat Mahmood.

But then there was the Footpath.

By the way, the italicised word was the title of a film that released in 1953.

The only song from that film in my collection was Shaam-E-Gham Ki Kasam.

While it couldn’t have been anything but a sad song, the song had a word that left no doubts in the minds of the listeners about its mood – it was ghamgeen.

The song was written by Majrooh Sultanpuri, and composed by Khayyam.
