It was a Geeta solo

Like many Hindi film music enthusiasts of my generation, the first time I heard the word ‘Gajar’ was in the song from the 1989 film Tridev, Gajar Ne Kiya Hai Ishara.

I didn’t know what it meant then – upon looking it up later, I found out that it meant an alarm.

In 1951, a film titled Baazi released.

The title of a song on its soundtrack went Suno Gajar Kya Gaaye.

It was rendered by Geeta Ghosh Roy Chowdhury (she was not Geeta Dutt then).

Sahir Ludhianvi wrote the song, which S D Burman composed.
